Less than 1/2 of 1% of books in print got censored by amazon over the last week. You could search, but you couldn’t find. You could look and it would take a LOT of work to try and find many wonderful books.
On first look it appears that amazon was censoring “adult material” that they didn’t want to show up in searches.
Among those books was Irresistible Attraction: Secrets of Personal Magnetism. This book has sold a LOT of copies and made a lot of money for amazon. I’m sure many other books that amazon had censored had done so as well.
Certainly the THEME of Irresistible Attraction is adult in orientation BUT there is NOTHING dirty or rude or crude in the book. It is a practical and scientifically based approach to attraction in the real world.
I still love amazon. They sell more books for me than anyone, BUT, censorship is a disaster. NO ONE has the right to say that you should or shouldn’t watch, view, read, or THINK XYZ.
In amazon’s defense they did come out today and say they had erred. They were sorry to the authors who were harmed.
OK.
We’ll see how this all plays out. It will be interesting.

That is pretty wild Kevin, I look forward to hearing more about this situation…

Huh?!! Was their explanation that they had censored it because of content, or did they have a computer program that searched out “suspicious” titles?

Hi Kevin,
You know you could look on the bright side of this think what kind of sales letter you could come up with to incorporate the book banned by amazon?? Remember how Frank Kern sold being shut down by the FTC i think?

Wow! That is real interesting. Sorry it happened to you though. I believe that no one should be told or banned from making thier own informed choice if I wanted somthing smutty; I certainly wouldn’t turn your direction to buy it, but If I bring home something X rated that should be my decision. I am a big girl.

Yeah, wow. I heard amazon got into a lot of trouble for censoring a number of LGBT and feminist books too.
They’ve received a lot of bad publicity for it on the net. Which I guess is one of the reasons why you’re writing this blog. Smart!

Strange! You country’s puritanical streak does have a habit of manifesting itself in some pretty dreadful ways.
Censorship has its place; there are aspects of human nature that shouldn’t be encouraged. But I’m talking about the stuff that 99% of people (and the law) acknowledges to be wrong.
If they’ve really removed it, it’s pathetic tokenism. I’ll bet we could find no end of books that have salacious content still there!

Amazing!! Censorship has no place in our society. It creates more ills than it purports to control. On the other hand, I do go with the suggestion that you capitalize on the situation with a great email blast.

Irresistible Attraction, too Irresistible for Amazon?
Irresistible Attraction, Attracts the Amazon Censors
Glad to hear it’s back.
Remember Germany in the 1930s before Hitler’s rise to power? Censorship was part of that, too.

Well all I have to say is that it was this book that first attracted me to you. I had never heard of you before I read that book. To be honest, I remember thinking that with that title I was kinda hoping for a little more uh seduction. I think thats what confused the amazonian censors. They confused attraction with seduction.
Remember what Lakhni says…even bad attention is good.
I buy something from Amazon nearly every week…can I complain to them???

That is my favorite book! My 10 year old son recently asked me how he could get this little girl to like him. I was weighing the pros and cons of teaching him some of the “tricks” in that book like the eye alignment thingy. Good stuff in there.

It will only matter if the book gets put back on for sale after the apology…
Who said, bad press is still press? Definitely you will capitalize on this one.
It is ridiculous that Amazon censored the book…I thought that’s what makes this country great, we actually have a choice?!
Hope you sell more than ever!
